Going Back to School in Fashionable Geek-style
If you hadn’t already guessed it the folks here at QuadrupleZ are kind of.. well, geeky. We love TV, movies, comics and everything in between. So it was kind of refreshing to see more and more of our favorite things being accepted by the mainstream of culture. Geek is, in fact, the new chic.
So it was no small surprise when Warner Brothers asked us to talk about the new Supergirl by Nastia clothing collection. The only disappointing fact is this clothing wasn’t around when I was a kid going back to school.
One of the fun parts (at least for me) of heading back to school was getting some new supplies and, of course, some new clothes. So what self-respecting Geek parent isn’t going to check out Supergirl by Nastia at JCPenney for their 4 to 12-year-old girls?
I especially loved these pants! Fashionable super hero wear… where were you when I was starting third grade?

Nastia Liukin is a Supergirl bringing Super-Fashions to JCPenney
I love strong female characters. It’s no surprise to anyone who knows me. Strong female super heroes? The best.Girls need great role models. Women who are celebrate for their brains, not just their body. So many women struggle with self-respect and self-image. Finding modern day heroes can be hard. One of those heroes is Nastia Liukin, gold medal winning gymnast. Nastia Liukin is currently unveiling her new clothing line at JCPenny. Partnered with Warner Bros. Consumer Products (WBCP), on behalf of DC Comics, and JCPenney, Supergirl by Nastia offers fashionable clothes for 4 to 12-year-old girls (just in time for back-to-school). For those in California, you can meet Nastia at the JCPenney at the Glendale Galleria. Nastia will make a special appearance at this year’s Supergirl Jam set to take place on August 22 in Venice Beach, CA. Or on August 28th in Orlando, Florida at the Florida Mall.

I’m too Cool for School: Review of the DJ Bag from Yak Pak
Everyone who knows me or has seen me around a convention knows that I am tied to my messenger bag. It’s like my right arm. That’s why I was so happy to find Yak Pak. They make extremely trendy totes, messanger bags and hand bags. They sent me the uber awesome DJ Bag to review.I’ve been using it for months now and absolutely adore it. It’s the perfect size for DJs who often get overloaded with carrying a ton of bags. It can easily fit a stack of LPs or records and there’s a great front pocket for headphones. There’s also two cellphone sized side pockets that can be used for smaller equipment (or a camera like I use it for) or cords that seem to get lost at the bottom of any bag!
I’ve taken this bag everywhere and I’m pretty hard on my bags, but even after a couple of months the bag looks fantastic. It’s easy to clean and durable (most of my messanger bags need to be replaced after a couple of months). I get tons of compliments on it (especially from fashion-conscious teenagers).
It’s also the perfect size for my iPad, which often gets lost in my larger messanger bags. But it can still fit my laptop nicely too.

Review: Chocolate Cheerios
I’ve been a fan of Cheerios since I was two years old. And have been eating them ever since. While other cereals may flit through my pantry, cheerios are always here to stay. I’ve tried most of the reincarnations of my beloved o’s (as I used to call them), but never much cared for the fruity-sugary-stepchildren of my favorite cereal. So it was with some mixed emotions I bought a box of the all-new chocolate Cheerios this week.I shouldn’t have worried though, I’m in love with Chocolate Cheerios.
They look a bit odd when you first pour them in the bowl. I think it was wise to do the multi-shaded colors because it makes it feel less like a bowl of dirt! They do seem to resemble small chocolate-glazed donuts!
First thing I really loved about it is the taste. It’s not over-powering in it’s chocolate-flavor. General Mills says it’s made with real cocoa, which I think just makes this more delicious than some of the overly sweet and chocolaty cereals I’ve tried. There’s also not that waxy after-taste I get with a lot of sugary cereals. Just delicious choco-goodness.
It’s a bit higher calorie count wise than regular Cheerios (obviously), but I was surprised it wasn’t more. There’s 100 calories in 3/4ths of a cup of Chocolate Cheerios and 100 calories in 1 cup of Cheerios. Of course, the sugar difference is about 6 grams (3 grams in regular Cheerios and 9 grams in Chocolate Cheerios), but if you’re looking for something a bit sweeter this can be a great substitute for something like Cocoa Puffs (110 calories for a 3/4 cup serving and 12 grams of sugar).
So, two spoons up from a life-long Cheerios lover. This one is a great twist on a classic.

Review:
Since I already was a huge fan of Nature Valley’s bars, I was interested to know if the same quality would be put into their nut clusters. I tried all four of the current flavors and am happy to report that the same delicious ingredients and combinations of ingredients were present. With many packaged foods with nuts it’s hard to get nuts that don’t taste, to some degree, stale or the flavor of a wood chip. But the nuts in these granola nut clusters are absolutely delicious. My favorites were the almonds and cashews.
The nice thing about the clusters is they’re easy to eat without a lot of mess, so they’re perfect for a trip or eating around the home. And the protein and slightly sweet/salty combo made them a perfect mid-day pick me up at work when my energy was flagging. I also loved the packaging, the resealable bag actually sits up nicely, so the clusters are easy to get to and easy to store.
Warning though, these were so good it was hard to stop at just eating one or two!

Lauren Conrad Fall Style
In honor of Fall Fashion, here’s a YouTube video of Lauren Conrad talking about her new line (available starting tomorrow at Kohls). I love that she brings out the California style (since that’s my state) and the effortlessness of fashion (at a reasonable price). It’s always great to see passionate folks getting to talk about their creative outlet – and Fashion is one of those outlets that intrigues me.

Who Watches the Watches?
In this day and age watches are no longer a necessity, but instead, they are a fashion accessory. Since I carry my cellphone everywhere it’s become my new watch. But I still love occasionally wearing my Emily Strange watch because it represents me – black and red, a black cat (like my cat Myboyfriend) and a quirky 13 instead of 12 at the top).So now I think of watches as personality statements, much like jewelry or shoes. So when I think of buying a watch as a present I want something that represents the person. When Bluedial.com asked me to write about their Seiko Kinetic watches, I had a lot of fun trying to match a watch to a person in my life. I, of course, started thinking birthdays and Christmas. Something timeless to celebrate my grandfather’s birthday perhaps. A beautiful watch to commemorate his years of life and love.
When I think about the time my Grandpa Bill has seen, it’s fairly amazing. He’s gone through a World War, seen the rise and fall of Communism in Russia, gone from listening to the radio for entertainment, to the TV, to the internet. He’s seen phones numbers go from KLondike 5-3247 to calling Jenny at 867-5309. He’s gone from the days where Humphry Bogart was the on screen hero/tough guy to Harrison Ford to “The Rock” Dwayne Johnson.

Feed Your Addiction
So I have an addiction…. Well a few of them!
But today I’m bringing up my terrible addiction to soaps and lotions and things. To be honest, I’m not a big lotion person, but I ADORE soaps and bath bombs and salts. Really anything that will make me smell pretty and will go in the tub or shower. I also love what great gifts these things make!So with that in mind I wanted to talk a little bit about a few of the places that feed my addiction.
To begin with I heard about this give away today. It looks pretty great and right up my alley. I checked out the store and am really excited about the Sage and Lavender stuff (what a great idea to mix those two smells!). I’ve not tried anything from there yet, but I’m excited to! The prices also look really reasonable, so I’m looking forward to adding this stuff to my usual rotation. I also like that there are sales! Yay for sales. Rebecca’s Soap Delicatessen.
Now I also recently found this place. I just love this stuff. Its local for me but they will deliver anywhere. Again the lavender stuff is amazing (all of it). I also really enjoy the moose (its a thick lotion), and the Red Rocks soap is earthy and wonderful (and totally looks like Red Rocks)! The kitchen soap is fun too, citrus and coffee, awesome idea. There are some great products for moms-to-be and babies. There are also a lot of smaller size (and less expensive) items that make fantastic gifts. I personally enjoy the small soap packs, you get a variety of scents for a pretty good deal! They also have a lot of eco-friendly products worth checking out. Mountain Girl Botanics.
I’ve also been spending some time with Lush. The hair products are really different and fun. I’ve been using the hair mask and WOW! I’m impressed. I also love it for the bath bombs and other fun bath stuff. They have a great online ordering service, and have locations all over. One of the things to note though is that I will often find something I love online only to find they don’t carry it in the store.
And finally for bath enthusiasts check out Melt. They are similar to Lush, but the scents you get are very different. I personally am a big fan of the Maharini Mist. I like that they sell things by scent rather than product, so if you find something you like you can get everything from scrubs to lotions to bath bombs with that scent. Oddly enough, this was a little confusing for me when I went to the store. If you don’t remember the name of the scent you liked it can be a bit daunting to locate it again.
There are a LOT of places out there, and I usually find something special and fun about most of them. I suggest you check out any of these places and find the thing you love about them
